MMA

MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts, a full-contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques and skills from a mixture of traditional martial arts and modern combat sports. It incorporates techniques from disciplines such as boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, Muay Thai, karate, taekwondo, and others. Competitors, known as mixed martial artists (MMA fighters), can use both striking and grappling skills, whether standing or on the ground.

MMA competitions are typically held in an enclosed area, such as an octagonal cage or a boxing ring, under a set of standardized rules that encompass weight classes, allowable techniques, and scoring methods. The sport has gained significant popularity since the early 1990s and is often regulated by athletic commissions, ensuring fighter safety and fair competition.

MMA events, such as those promoted by organizations like the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), showcase fighters in various match formats, culminating in championship contests. As a result, MMA has become a prominent part of modern sports culture, appealing to audiences for its intensity, athleticism, and the diversity of fighting styles displayed.
