Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opponent’s hoop, which is elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end. Points are scored by making field goals (worth two or three points, depending on the distance from the hoop) and free throws (worth one point). Players use various skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense to gain possession of the ball and attempt to outscore the opposing team. Basketball originated in 1891 and has since grown into a highly popular global sport, with professional leagues, college competitions, and international tournaments. The NBA (National Basketball Association) is the most recognized professional basketball league in the world. The sport emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and athleticism, and is played both indoors and outdoors.
